Legislators in New York passed a law requiring employers to provide sexual-harassment training to all workers. This training must be implemented by October 9, 2018. The training must provide specific criteria to comply with New York state including but not limited to: specific examples of inappropriate conduct, the applicable laws and remedies to employees under the laws, and avenues for making complaints. Employers must also adopt a written sexual-harassment prevention policy and distribute it to employees. The policy similar to the training must comply with New York state guidelines. Employers in New York City must also comply with additional standards mandated by the Stop Sexual Harassment in NYC Act. Companies’ policies and procedural manuals will need to be updated to comply. PKHB encourages our clients to seek professional legal and or human resource help as soon as possible to ensure timely compliance.
